David got home around 11:30 last night after a long dinner (followed up by some drinking, of course) getting drunk with some customers in Anyang. (He got a professional driver to bring him and the car back home, in case you’re wondering. It’s a service they have here for just such business occasions.)
He then stayed up until just after one a.m. making some calls back to the home office in Chicago (it was just before noon there), then got up this morning to answer emails from Korean customers, correspond via instant message with a colleague in Australia, and log on to the company’s “Internet gear” in Mannheim, Germany to perform some maintenance on the system.
Just another day at the office now that the world is flat.

My life is just like that, too…it’s crazy. I am dealing with offices in Rabat, DC, Cairo, and Bamako. It’s great to have flexibility but at the same time…you’re always on…Suddenly 9-5 is sounding really kinda good.

Maryam,
Yes, it can get crazy like that. Work is available 24/7 . To reinforce 9-5, maybe one day the world will go to a single timezone ! Hah !

Ha! I KNEW it! Now David is thorougly convinced his ol’ MOM has ESP that curves around the globe, even before it was flat! Guess when the first time I called him on his cell after getting my international calling priviliges straightened out on my home phone! You guessed it!– while he was drinking with those customers! And I must have been unknowingly imbibed myself, as I actually understood a couple of technical phrases spoken in Korean in the background! Actually, it’s just one of the side benefits of my own job. Go figure.
