I’ll be taking an extended break from blogging to enjoy the arrival of our daughter.Susana JillBorn: August 8, 20073:43 a.m.Samsung Medical CenterShe wasn’t expected until early September, but somehow decided that seeing Seoul in August was a good idea.Just after she was born, one of the nurses told me: “Your daughter was looking at the sky.”At the time, I thought it was such a beautiful and mystical thing to say (if a bit strange). She then clarified that Susana was born sunny-side up with her face toward the ceiling, which made the birth more difficult.I think I prefer the first interpretation. I hope that she will always be looking at the sky.I’ll be back soon with updates.

She is indeed heaven sent. Even though she was 5 weeks ahead of schedule, she was treated just like a full-term baby at the hospital - no ICU required. She has also thus far *knock on wood* sailed through all of the tests. Her birth weight - 2.79kg - and Cathi’s good health probably had a lot to do with this.
Most importantly, she seems like a relatively calm and happy baby. I give mom all the credit for that :-)
As for life in Korea, I plan on teaching her all of the wonderful things I can about Korean culture, including the wonderful food. At the hospital, she didn’t wrinkle her nose one bit when I ate some strong-smelling kimchi right in front of her, just 1 or 2 days new into the world. She also didn’t laugh (right away) at me during my Korean language speaking exercises when I had her in my lap.
As for Cathi, she’s quite a trooper. Though she’s sorely lacking on sleep and is facing a lot of new and sometimes difficult learning experiences with me, she’s keeping a positive demeanor.
I like to think our family has gained 2 people : a wonderful little girl and a great mommy :-)

This grandma’s arms reach out in spirit to Seoul! Susanna Jill Harris is a very blessed little girl to have you two for parents and reflects this blessing in her every pore and gesture–so irresistibly adorable!
