Speechless

Apparently, you can now have dancing girls at your wedding.
The link is to Mong Dori but the video is apparently from Naver and its getting quite a bit of attention, at least from the expat community.
Some people wonder what the bride is thinking. To me, she looks pretty into it (Or, she’s a great actress. Check out the part where he lip syncs to her at the end.)
Folks back home: Girls hired to dance to recorded music under a balloon arch are ubiquitous here at store openings or special promotions.
I wonder what’s going on in the minds of the parents.

In defense of Korean weddings, I’ve been to many myself and have never seen anything resembling blatant sexism and certainly nothing close to this.

To give this wedding the benefit of the doubt, perhaps the dancers are managed by a family member and are being thrown “work” as part of the wedding. There may also be another explanation such that it is not as blatantly sexist at it appears.

However, should it be the case that it is as it appears to be, then it is indeed appalling. Women in Korea, in general, put up with way too much blatant sexism, IMHO.

Finally, weddings themselves tend to take a life of their own and quickly grow beyond what any single person wanted them to be. Weddings in almost every culture have a tendency of getting out of control.

Actually, I would say Las Vegas weddings are “crazier” than that. I’ve seen some weddings that would boggle the mind.

Hmmm… I think the groom was in on it-he picked up the choreography pretty quickly! & several of the audience (family?) seemed to clapping along. Maybe the lyrics were “you make my heart dance?” ……maybe they were the bridesmaids?..

wow, this is really funny. i’m not sure this is blatant sexism so much as throwing a dose of wackiness into a ritual that has become a kind of stuffy cultural hodgepodge anyway. it seems that the bride and groom have the same sense of bizarro humor, which is a good start.
