Hollywood media: Case study of cranial-rectal syndrome

by Cat on May 14, 2008

First, publicists for the film Speed Racer mistakenly (and repeatedly) refer to actor Jung Ji-hoon (a.k.a. Rain, a.k.a. one of world’s most influential people, ahem) by his character’s name at the film’s premiere.

Now, the editors at People magazine apparently can’t tell the difference between him and this guy:

2Rain Fresh
(Fellow Speed Racer actor Karl Yune.)

FYI, people, the real Rain:

Wow. That is really, really bad. SpeedRacer is not some straight-to-DVD or even art-house movie. It’s a “Summer Blockbuster” movie with the marketing budget to match.

You would think People magazine could correctly distinguish the two headlining Asian actors in the film…geez.

I’m also terribly disappointed. If this was an isolated incident, I wouldn’t think much of it, but this seems to be one incident in a LONG string of Hollywood slights against Asian males. Damn…it’s still tough for Asian males to get the credit they deserve in Hollywood movies.

Korean and Japanese netizens should jump all over this - and they’d be right to.

Hey, this kind of thing goes all the way back to Bruce Lee, when he was trying to suceed in American films.
