So far, the baby has shoes, some clothes, a cradle, and some loveys. (More info on the Flickr page.) A pretty good start.

Golden pig baby

So about a thousand years ago, (ok, January if you really must be literal) Gdog over at The Daily Kimchi tagged me for the “Five Things You Don’t Know About Me” meme.

I know he probably thinks I was ignoring him, but I wasn’t. It was just that there was one particular thing that almost no one knows about me that I wasn’t sure I was willing to share with all of the whole Internet, at least not yet . . .

But, now I’ve decided it’s time. Without further ado, I present:

Five Things You Don’t Know About Me
(alternate title: “One Thing You Didn’t Know and Four You Probably Wish You Still Didn’t” )

    1. I am a huge fan of Loretta Lynn. Ordinarily my musical tastes encompass just about every type of music except country and western, but I have loved Loretta since I read Coal Miner’s Daughter in the fourth grade, bought a bunch of her albums, and then also the 45s (yes, the record singles you play on a turn table—that’s how old I am) of “Your Squaw is on the Warpath” and “Don’t Come Home a-Drinkin’ (with Lovin’ on Your Mind).” Don’t laugh. Loretta is cool.

    2. Moonstruck is my favorite movie. OK, yeah, I like Cher, too. I’m on a roll…

    3. I’m three and a half years older than my husband. I don’t think this is particularly interesting, but everyone I’ve told here has been fascinated, so I’m throwing that in.

    4. I voted for Ralph Nader in 2000 even though he wasn’t on the ballot in the state where I was living. I wrote him in. Make of that what you will.

Now, saving the best (and most important) for last . . .

    5. We hit the 600-year lucky jackpot. That’s right. The golden pig baby. Just after returning from the Christmas holidays, we found out that we’re going to be parents! Sometime in September, we will welcome the new little member of our Seoul household, our first child. We are very excited and hopeful, and a little apprehensive. So, any of you who’ve done this before–had a baby in Seoul—or, just had a baby anywhere—feel free to share advice. We’re going to need it.
